10 More Fun Things To Doodle On

Today, I want to share with you 10 more fun, crazy, and uncommon things I have drawn on. When I was gathering my photos for my post 10 Fun Things To Doodle On, I realized I have doodled on lots of things. So here is a list of more things to doodle on and a little bit about each one.

1. Toothpick

I took a Micron pen size 005 to the thickest toothpick I could find, and my teeth have never been the same.

2. Mannequin

A friend of mine bought a bunch of mannequins from a clothing store that was closing down. I spray painted a female one with silver then doodled all over it. If you walked in while I was drawing on some parts of this piece…it would of been awkward. Ah the things I go through for art…ha ha ha.

3. Apple

After drawing on a banana, it was only natural to draw on an apple. The shiny surface of the fruit made it very easily for the paint markers to do it’s thing. A doodle apple a day…keeps the sanity away…muhahaha.

4. Teapot

I found myself at an estate sale searching for something I can draw on to donate to the Union City Historical Museum, and this teapot found me. The kind people of the estate sale didn’t even charge me anything for it…I think it’s because I said it was going to be in the local museum. Maybe I should say that more often.

5. Vinyl Record Sleeve

I was hanging out with my girlfriend at a used book store, and stumbled upon shelves of used vinyl records for about $0.50 to $1.00 a piece. So we went through all the records looking for the best ones suited for doodling. This one was my first one and one of my followers, Turtle Candace, quickly emailed me and bought it when she saw it. Thanks Candace!

6. Vinyl Toy

This doodled up Munny was one of the earliest pieces where I drew on objects. It taught me a lot about how to draw on curved shapes and hard to paint marker places.

7. Bike

A friend of my curators, really wanted me to doodle on her white bike. So one Sunday she stopped by with her bike and commissioned me to doodle on it. It now matches her car’s license plates! Thanks Turtle Laurie!

8. Ketchup Packet

My fellow artist isketchupp on Instagram suggested/challenged me to draw on ketchup packets. So I did.

9. Rock

I don’t remember what compelled me to draw on a rock, but I do remember it being fairly fun and easy. Turtles Rock!

10. Hotel Fire Escape Door

Thanks to fellow artist, Gun-Woo-Pak, for asking me to draw on a wall with him at the Hotel des Arts in San Francisco. I ended up drawing on the fire escape door, and it actually appeared on Anthony Bourdain’s The Layover: San Francisco for about one second.

Custom Doodle TOMS Shoes

Today, I shipped some custom doodle TOMS to Turtle Pam. Turtle Pam commissioned me to doodle on some TOMS shoes, and although I was familiar with the brand…I never doodled on them before.

Here was how my creative process went:

1. Doodle -Black Extra Fine Point Decocolor Paint Marker
2. Sew tag – Thanks to Vianca for sewing Turtle Wayne label onto the shoe
3. Spray coat -Krylon’s Low Odor Clear Finish
4. Photo – iPhone 4S camera
5. Video -imovie app and YouTube

Late Night Art Session

I didn’t know what to expect at the first Late Night Art Session at Paddy’s Coffee House Hosted by &THEM Collective, but I was excited!

&THEM made print outs of my turtles and JToddO’s artwork for people to color and draw on.

There was a DJ filling the air with hip hop music as everyone drew, drank, and talked.

I got to draw on one of the counter displays with a window marker!

My bunny and her good friend worked on their crafting stuff.

I brought my button machine, and helped people make some custom pins!

I made these T-Rex buttons.

Some people that got a hold of the turtle print outs and art supplies crack me up.

I got to see some of my favorite artists in the Bay Area too…like Basic Lee, Nick Trujillo, JP Neang, and Laura Ho!

It was a fun night of meeting new artists and people, and seeing old ones too. It’ll probably happen again, and maybe when it does you can come join us!

Today, I made another time lapse video! This time with micron pens and colored with prismacolor markers.

Today, I doodled outside…and used my iphone to capture it all.

This was my first time doodling outside on the ground, and recording the whole experience. This is how the turtle process went:

1. Used “Motion Cafe” app and set it to take a photo every 5 second
2. Used “iMovie” app to rotate the video
3. Used “Splice” app to put it all together (titles, video, photos, and music)

Overall it took about 2-3 hours, but at least half an hour was waiting for the iMovie app to install on my phone. I hope to get better making videos of my doodling adventures, but if not…at least you can check this one out. Thanks!

10 Fun Things To Doodle On

Today, I want to share with you 10 fun, crazy, and uncommon things I have drawn on. I have doodled on many different things due to requests, challenges, commissions, and boredom. Here are ten of them today, and I hope to share another ten in the future.

1. Rice

I took a Micron pen size 005 to two of the best looking grains of rice I could find, and my life has never been the same.

2. Concrete

My dad just had poured concrete in our backyard one day, and at night it was perfect to take a chopstick to for a doodle. The bits of concrete that surface as you dig into it is annoying. Great thing we had an air compressor to blast that all away as I carved into the concrete.

3. Magazine

The glossy page of a magazine is perfect for my favorite decocolor paint markers. I found a lot of great pages with plenty of white space, but this one of Audrey Hepburn really “jumped” at me.

4. Violin (Toy)

On a trip to the thrift store with my girlfriend, we stumbled upon this little treasure. It didn’t cost much so I bought it and took a decocolor paint marker to it. I ended up selling this piece to a great fan of my artwork in Canada.

5. Arm

I really like tattoos, but not the fact that they are permanent. So I love to use body art paint to give myself temporary tattoos that last about a week. I use Tribal Body Art Ink, and a very small and thin brush.

6. Egg

My dad told me to draw on an egg. So I did.

7. Lighter

I used a sharpie to doodle on this lighter someone left in my studio.

8. Peanut

I don’t remember what compelled me to take a micron pen to a peanut…maybe I am “nuts”.

9. Shoes

People have asked me if I’ve ever worn these shoes that I doodled on with sharpie before. I haven’t because the shoes aren’t in my size. I found them in the clearance bin at a sporting goods store, and couldn’t resist not getting them just to draw on.

10. Banana

I’ve gone “bananas”! I was inspired to draw on a banana when I saw another artist draw on bananas. I used black, red, green, and blue decocolor paint markers for this fruit doodle.

Never Pay Regular Price For Art Supplies

Today, I bought some Micron pens for half the regular price. I love micron pens, and use them in my sketch book the most.

But Micron pens cost around $3 each, and to me that’s a lot.

So whenever Michaels has a 50% off 1 regular priced item, I go get a 6 pack. With the discount, each pen is around $1.50…half the regular price!

I might not need new Micron pens at the moment, but since the 50% coupon doesn’t come out every week I have to take advantage and stock up. Eventually, I’ll need fresh Micron pens. And getting the pens for half price is awesome. You can do the same with any art supply you regularly use yo!

More FREE Stuff To Draw On

If you don’t mind the tiny words printed on them, paint swatches at any home improvement store are great to draw on!


I gravitate towards the lighter colored swatches, but I don’t discriminate by size. I grabbed some small ones, ones with rounded corners, even ones with square holes in them.

The Levels Of Flattery

Today, it just hit me that I’ve been receiving the highest level of flattery for weeks now. Followers of my artwork have been creating works they say are “inspired by Turtle Wayne”. I’m totally flattered, honored, and still a little stunned that others would pay me the highest compliment by mimicking and copying my drawings. I would like to share some of my favorites and also list how I break down the different levels of compliments.

The 4 Levels Of Flattery:
1. “This drawing is good.”
2. “This drawing is f-ing good.”
3. “How much is this drawing?”
4. “This drawing is inspired by you.”

I’ve sold a few drawings, and it feels good. But these works of art that are “inspired by Turtle Wayne”…well they make me feel f-ing good.

Doodle Rice Rice Baby

Today, I drew on grains of rice. The challenge is not just in the tiny size to draw on, but also in getting over the fact that one might be wasting their time drawing on rice.

I was interested in the challenge ever since someone suggested I draw on rice after they saw me draw on a peanut.

Well, I hand picked some lucky grains of rice, placed them on some tape, and doodled on them with a micron pen nib size 005. Here are my doodle rice:
